“Observed every year on 20 March 2026, World Oral Health Day launches a year-long campaign urging communities worldwide to protect their oral health and their overall well-being”

DUBAI, UAE Every year on 20 March 2026, the world comes together to mark World Oral Health Day (WOHD), a landmark awareness campaign established by the FDI World Dental Federation. What began as a single-day observance has grown into a year-long movement spanning over 130 countries, calling on individuals, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to take action on oral health.

This year’s campaign continues the theme: “A Happy Mouth Is… A Happy Mind” shining a light on the deep connection between oral health and mental well-being. Poor oral health doesn’t just affect the mouth. It can erode confidence, trigger social anxiety, and quietly diminish a person’s quality of life.

“Oral diseases affect an estimated 3.7 billion people worldwide, yet the vast majority of these conditions are preventable with the right habits and timely professional care.”

Despite being largely preventable, oral diseases remain among the most widespread non-communicable conditions globally. Tooth decay, gum disease, and tooth loss continue to affect people of all ages often going untreated due to limited awareness or access to care. World Oral Health Day exists to close that gap.

More Than Just Brushing Your Teeth

The 2025 campaign urges people to look beyond basic hygiene and understand oral health as a cornerstone of general health. Conditions in the mouth can be linked to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, respiratory illness, and complications during pregnancy. A healthy mouth, maintained from childhood through old age, contributes to a healthier life overall.

Healthcare professionals across the UAE are being called on to use World Oral Health Day as an opportunity to educate patients, run community awareness drives, and promote regular dental check-ups particularly for children and the elderly.
