What are full mouth dental implants?
Full mouth dental implants replace all or nearly all of the teeth in one or both jaws using a small number of titanium implants, usually 4 to 6 per arch, that anchor a fixed, non-removable bridge. Rather than replacing each missing tooth individually, the implants act as strategically placed support posts for an entire arch of new teeth.
This is different from a full mouth rehabilitation, which is a broader term covering any combination of crowns, bridges, veneers, implants and gum treatment used to restore a mouth with multiple issues. Full mouth implants specifically refer to the implant-supported, fixed-bridge approach — the modern alternative to removable dentures.
The two most common protocols are All-on-4 and All-on-6, named for the number of implants placed per arch. Which one fits your case depends on jawbone density, bite force and how much support your final bridge needs — covered in detail on the dedicated pages below.
All-on-4 or All-on-6 — which fits your case?
Both replace a full arch with a fixed bridge. The difference is how many implants anchor it, and that comes down to your bone.
All-on-4 Dental Implants
Four implants — two vertical at the front, two angled at the back — support a full fixed arch. Often suitable when bone density is moderate and angled placement can avoid the need for bone grafting.
All-on-6 Dental Implants
Two additional implants spread the chewing load further, which can mean better long-term stability for patients with lower bone density or a heavier bite.
| Factor | All-on-4 | All-on-6 |
|---|---|---|
| Implants per arch | 4 | 6 |
| Best suited for | Moderate bone density, standard bite force | Lower bone density or heavier bite load |
| Bone grafting | Often avoided via angled placement | Sometimes still needed, case-dependent |
| Relative cost | Lower (fewer implants) | Higher (more implants, more support) |
Who is a candidate for full mouth implants?
Good fit
- Missing all or most teeth in one or both jaws
- Wearing dentures that feel loose, uncomfortable or restrict diet
- Sufficient jawbone density confirmed via CBCT scan
- No active gum infection or uncontrolled systemic conditions
- Want a fixed solution rather than a removable one
Needs assessment first
- Significant bone loss — may need grafting or an All-on-4 approach designed for less bone
- Active gum disease or oral infection
- Uncontrolled diabetes or other conditions affecting healing
- Heavy smokers — success rates drop, and we'll discuss this honestly upfront
From CBCT scan to your final fixed bridge
01
CBCT & consultation
3D scan checks bone density, nerve position and gum health to confirm All-on-4 vs All-on-6 and rule out grafting needs.
02
Implant placement
Titanium implants placed under local anaesthesia. Any remaining damaged teeth are extracted in the same visit if needed.
03
Same-day temporary
Where you qualify, a functional temporary bridge is fitted the same day so you don’t leave without teeth.
04
Healing & final bridge
3–6 months of osseointegration, then your permanent, custom-shaded fixed bridge is fitted.
What determines the cost of full mouth implants
Number of implants
All-on-4 vs All-on-6 is the biggest single cost driver — two extra implants per arch.
One arch or both
Upper only, lower only, or full mouth (both jaws) roughly changes the scope proportionally.
Bone grafting
Needed only if CBCT shows insufficient bone density — confirmed before, not after treatment starts.
Extractions required
Full mouth clearance of remaining damaged teeth adds to the same-visit surgical scope.
Bridge material
Acrylic temporary vs. final zirconia bridge — the permanent bridge is the larger investment.

It replaces all or most of the teeth in a jaw using 4 to 6 titanium implants that support a fixed, non-removable bridge — the implant-based alternative to dentures.
It depends on implant count, arches treated, grafting needs and bridge material. You’ll get an itemised quote after your CBCT scan and consultation.
All-on-4 uses four implants per arch; All-on-6 uses six for extra support. Suitability depends on your bone density and bite force.
Removing all remaining natural teeth in one or both jaws before placing implants, usually combined with same-day temporary teeth.
Candidacy depends on jawbone density, gum health and medical history, assessed via CBCT scan. Bone loss doesn’t automatically rule you out — grafting or All-on-4 can often still work.
You leave with a functional temporary bridge on day one where eligible. Full healing takes 3–6 months before the final bridge is fitted.
Surgery is done under local anaesthesia. Mild swelling or discomfort afterward is normal and managed with standard pain relief.
The titanium implants can last a lifetime with good hygiene and check-ups. The fixed bridge itself typically lasts 10–15 years.
